SCHAUMBURG, Ill.—Across the country, pastors and people gathered in prayer for Haiti through the technology of a webinar. On Monday evening, January 18, a sensitive and anguished group of people sought the Lord for the healing of the nation of Haiti. Loved ones have slipped into eternity, many are still missing, thousands have been injured, homes have been destroyed, and there is a mass migration as people seek refuge in other parts of the country and into other lands.

A portion of a letter was read from Pastor Prédestin Hérard, president of the Association of Evangelical Baptist Churches of Haiti. This fundamental association is a partner in the International Partnership of Fundamental Baptist Ministries.

Greetings in the wonderful name of Jesus Christ. Without the presence of God, I would have died because I was in the street when the tragedy happened. But our God is wonderful and powerful to protect His children. Until now I did not have any means of communication; no power, no phone or internet connection and so forth. I just now found a means to contact you. Thank you very much for all your prayers for me, my family and the pastors of the Association. They are very touched. Some of them died although I can’t give you a list. Some of them survived but they lost everything. Really the situation is very catastrophic because there are a lot of dead bodies around the streets. The authorities try to do in each area several common graves to put the bodies but there are always bodies below the rubble. By the grace of God, all our children are safe. Only the western face of our church is damaged.Greet all of you for me please. Have a wonderful night on the regard of God!Your brother, Pastor Prédestin Pierre Hérard

Thirteen states—from east coast to west coast, north to south—were represented at the prayer meeting. At least five individuals had groups of people participating in one call, including one church group and a few families. One church indicated that it will divert its building fund offering to the Haitian Relief for at least a year.

Prayerfully consider a gift to assist these dear brothers and sisters in their immediate needs. We will also plan to send in teams in the second wave of assistance. Surely we who are so blessed can share with those who have nothing.
