Twenty-three years ago, Pastor Cyrus and Gladys Wyanyoni started Mianguli Baptist Church in the western interior region of Kenya, 20 km outside Bungoma town. God has used this visionary pastor to start 20 churches in the surrounding area. Those churches were organized into the Bungoma Eastern Baptist Association. However, Pastor Wyanyoni felt that the association’s name tied it too closely to the Kenya Baptist Convention. After prayer and counsel, the time had come for this association to adopt a new name, indicating more clearly the autonomy of its churches. Chris and Deb Hindal were privileged to participate in the inaugural conference under its new name, Good Soil Baptist Churches, Int.

The two-day conference included worship, messages, and breakout sessions. Chris brought two messages each day, and Deb spoke to the women during the breakout sessions. Chris also met with three separate groups of orphans and widows, church planters and evangelists, and association leaders.

Over the years, 10 churches have pulled out of the association for various reasons, but the church planters have opened 10 more preaching points with the goal of establishing local churches. Pastor Wyanyoni says, “It is our goal to cross over into Uganda to establish local churches in this Muslim-dominated country.” Praise God for this association that stands firmly on the fundamentals of the faith and has vision to reach beyond its borders.
