Regular Baptist International recently sent Regular Baptist Press Sunday School curriculum to missionaries in Guyana. John Nascimento and his family, originally from Brazil, serve with Maranatha Multicultural Ministries in Corentyne, Guyana, near the Suriname border.

“On July 17 of this year we arrived at East Berbice-Corentyne and took over the work at Clonbrook First Baptist Church in the city and the Emmaus Baptist Church in the bush.” Both churches are Regular Baptist churches that Baptist Mid-Missions planted in the 1960s, but each has been without a pastor for almost 30 years. Now on Sundays, the Nascimento family holds classes and a worship service in Clonbrook from 9:00 a.m. to noon, returns home for lunch, and travels to Mibicuri for afternoon classes and a worship service. Children’s classes in both locations utilize the Regular Baptist Press resources that Regular Baptist Press International has sent. On Saturdays the family does door-to-door evangelism, booklet distribution, and visits to encourage believers. Five new believers will soon be baptized.

“These Guyanese people worship the Hindu god Kauli, who is really a demon of death,” John says. “They worship and fear him because they don’t want disaster in their lives. He requires blood and child sacrifice. There is so much work here to do. Please pray for us.”
