Shalom Academy is a ministry of the Fundamental Baptist Fellowship of Manipur, India, of which T. Jamthang is president. Shalom Academy educates students up to 10th grade. Chong Singsit and his sister, Phalkho, started the school in 1984, fulfilling the vision of their late father to teach the tribal people how to read so they could understand God’s Word and be saved.
What happened at Shalom Academy was the Holy Spirit’s intervention in the affairs of mankind. The Holy Spirit’s visit was a total surprise to me, since Shalom Academy had hit bottom spiritually. Oh, how true it is that God’s Holy Spirit works independent of people or circumstances.
VBS, sponsored by New Life Crusaders, was held at Shalom Sept. 27–29. This VBS could have been a total failure if God’s action was dependent on mankind. On the second day of VBS the Holy Spirit came down in a mighty way, touching many young people and transforming them from a life of despair to a life of hope and purpose. As a result, 176 of the 356 students recognized the conviction of the Holy Spirit, resulting in conversion.
When I spoke with Hoinu, she was excited about what God was doing. She acknowledged how dry her life had been and that she was fostering anger toward other individuals, giving the enemy an advantage over the situation. In the end, God was the winner.
How true is this verse in Isaiah: “[God’s] ways [are] higher than your ways, and [God’s] thoughts than your thoughts” (55:9). Please pray for the plan that is being drawn up to disciple these new believers so that we may not miss what God is trying to teach us.
