A bridge in Malawi collapses from floodwaters.

Southern Malawi is still experiencing the effects of flooding that began Jan. 24 following a tropical storm, says Francis Chipukunya, founder and projects leader of Going Home Africa Ministries.

About 2,000 members of his church have been affected, with their homes either being damaged or destroyed by floodwaters.

People are also “finding it very difficult” to access services and find necessities, he says.

Homes and shops are now surrounded by water, an essential bridge has collapsed, and crops are now coated in sand.

People are “looking for support and help,” Francis says. “These challenges are overwhelming.”
