Women in Peru attended a retreat organized by the Peru Baptist Bible College and Church Association Feb 20–23. Evita, a pastor’s wife from Chimbote, spoke to the 80 women on the theme “Ordinary Woman or Extraordinary?” Additional pastors’ wives led workshops.

The retreat’s location of a church campground in Tomabal gave the women many opportunities to enjoy outdoor activities. However, no electricity upon the women’s arrival “meant no water except pulling up from a well [and] no showers or flushing until the next day,” says Julie Stilwell, a missionary to Peru with Baptist Mid-Missions. The chefs had to cook in the dark, but they “did a great job with no complaints,” Julie says. The women also enjoyed crafts, even though the lack of electricity meant the women couldn’t use glue guns.

Julie and her husband, Jonathan, serve at Gethsemane Baptist Church and Peru Baptist Bible College, both in Trujillo, Peru, about an hour away from the retreat’s location.
