Joseph Akakpo ministers with the Association des Eglises Baptistes Bibliques du Togo. He sends the following ministry report.
In June more than 80 people professed Christ as Savior at an outdoor evangelism event in the village of Agou-Klonou. The chief of the village, a religious man, gave us permission to do whatever we wanted. Praise the Lord for that. The man in charge of counting the attendees lost track due to the crowd and less light because it was in the night. We estimated 500 people present.
In the village of Kati-Lomnava are various ethnic groups who are farmers. I got to know these people a few years ago because my family has a farm there. My heart pours on them with compassion, for both spiritual and physical needs. Three of our churches in Lomé (Lomnava, Kelegougan and Djidjole) donated used clothes, which we shared to build our relationships and trust. We preached the gospel and shared the clothes with everyone attending, including kids. Four of the key men professed Jesus Christ as Savior.
We will be starting a Bible study group in that village immediately. A servant of God is already available as the shepherd to these sheep.
Moreover, we want to provide these people with good portable water for drinking and domestic needs. These people get water only when it rains, especially from ponds and on the streets. Imagine when you drink water from these sources what you get in your stomach. And if it does not rain, where can they get water?
We are praying for $11,500 to drill a well with a solar panel for the pump, including a water tank, for these 1,000 people in the village.
