In Peru, devastating flooding has killed dozens of people and displaced more than 500,000. Jonathan and Julie Stillwell are Baptist Mid-Missions missionaries serving with the Peru Baptist Bible Church Association. They have been calling pastors to ask about their needs so that as funds arrive, the couple can distribute resources where they are most needed.

Three churches have received the worst damage.

Iglesia Bautista Berea is located in the path of a flash flood that occurred. Several feet of mud and water were left in the auditorium. “Just a mess to clean up,” the Stillwells say.

In another location, heavy rains damaged Iglesia Bautista D Dadiva. This church lost several adobe walls.

The third church, Jesus El Buen, and its parsonage were destroyed by a flash flood.

Other churches lost classrooms and portions of their roofs.

Most of the missionaries in the flood-affected areas have been using their personal and work funds to help others secure basic needs, such as food, water, and shelter. Secular and religious groups are also helping to provide these necessities.
