Training Men and Women to Reach Liberia with the Gospel

Our ministry in Liberia also includes teaching at the Jake Memorial Baptist College. For the past 15 years the college has graduated more than 50 pastors, church leaders, evangelists, and Christian day school administrators. On March 25, this year, ten students graduated from the college. Many of these men are planting new churches in the city of Monrovia and around the country. This news letter highlights some of the ministries Jake former students are involved with.

The Ministry of the Cowfield Baptist Church, Monrovia.

Monrovia is a fast growing commercial city with more than half of the nation population. As new communities develop, the need for Bible believing Baptist Churches becomes glaring. The Cowfield Community in Duport Road of the Paynesville suburb is a highly populated area.  More than two years ago, the Lord led Pastor Emmanuel Saywah, a graduate of  the college to evangelize the community. After many months of Bible studies and calling, the Cowfield Baptist Fellowship was  established. The average attendance of the church for the quarter is 80 persons.  During the first quarter, 29 persons trusted Christ as Lord and Savior and 7 persons got baptized. The new fellowship is presently renting an unfinished building for worship.  With the rainy season now in progress, the fellowship finds it difficult to worship due to the leakage of the building.

The church is praying and trusting the Lord to provide funds to purchase land.  The cost of one lot in the area is USD $ 1,500 including survey and probating.

The Grand Gedeh Ministry

Liberia has been exposed to the gospel for more than 100 years now. But many parts of the county still remain unevangelized.  Beside few evangelical churches, Fundamental Baptist churches have not been established in these areas.

Since last year, Calvary Baptist Church is working with the Second Calvary Baptist Church ( a daughter church ) in Logan Town to send out a missionary to  Grand Gedeh County. Evangelist A. Waunica Roberts, a graduate of the Jake Memorial Baptist College has sensed the call of the Lord to plant church in  Zwedru, capital of Grand Gedeh  county.  After two assessment trips, all is now set to send Evangelist Roberts as missionary. Calvary is soliciting supports to assist Pastor Roberts and his family.

Revival Baptist Fellowship, Mount Barclay

The Revival Baptist Fellowship was established in 2008 in Mount Barclay, Montserrrado County. Since its establishment by Pastor Robert Zlahn, a student of the Jake Memorial Baptist College, the new fellowship is reaching the community with the gospel. At present, five persons are now in the Baptism class. For the first quarter, 20 persons trusted Christ as Lord and Savior. The fellowship presently worships in a temporary structure on a leased property.

Prayer request

The church is praying and trusting the Lord to provide funding for the purchase of a piece of land for the erection of the edifice.  The cost of land in the area is USD $ 1, 350 including survey and probate.

Jake Memorial Baptist College, Bong Mines Extension

The Bong Mines Theological Institute, an extension of the Jake Memorial Baptist College, will in July graduate 10 students who will be completing their studies in basic theology, evangelism and church planting.

Pastor Elvis Dissee and Rev. G. Larque Vaye established the school in 2006. Since it establishment, staff of the Jake Memorial Baptist College have been actively involved in the teaching program of the institute.

Once every module, two teachers travel to Bong Mines for a week long teaching. Pastor Dissee is also pastor of the Repentance Baptist Church in Todee, Montserrrado County.

The average attendance of the church is 52. In January, 35 persons came to Christ as the result of a mass evangelistic out reach done by the pastor and members.  As the result of this evangelistic work, a new church has been established in the near by town.

Prayer Requests

As the new mining company takes over the Bong Mines, many residents, churches and commercial activities are returning to the concession area. The need for more train pastors and evangelists will be even greater.  There are plans to purchase land to build the Bible school.  Pray also for the building of edifice in the new area where the church was established in Todee.

Please pray for the Lord to provide funding to purchases one acre of land for the development of the Bible school.

The Jake Memorial Baptist College is presently constructing a library and students’ center as part of the requirement for BA program.
