Phil and Barb Klumpp are missionaries with ABWE International in the Philippines. They send the following report regarding Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts.

Many of you, our friends, families, and supporting churches, have given generously to the Typhoon Haiyan Philippine Disaster Relief Fund. Thank you again! About 100 of our churches were affected to some level or another by the typhoon. Dr. Kent Pool, ABWE missionary in Iloilo, has sent this report on the churches in Panay:

“Of the 61 churches that needed repair, the number is down to 35, with 20typhoon 3 feb. 2014 still having significant repairs yet to be made. Only a couple of those churches do not yet have a plan in place due to the fact that the committee is just now finding out about them. . . .

typhoon 1 feb. 2014“I want to commend our national partners for the outstanding job they are doing with typhoon relief. I have over the last few weeks observed a well-oiled machine. The committee met, made decisions, and delegated tasks into the hands of trusted individuals, who then put the plan into action. Though much work has yet to be completed, a typhoon 2 feb. 2014great majority of the repair work on the island has begun, with a significant amount of it already finished.

Dr. Jim and Allene Latzko are ABWE missionaries in Tacloban, where the storm hit the worse. Jim reports, “Allene and I are counseling our neighbors and friends. Pray for us as we try to guide them through the trauma they have experienced towards knowing Christ and the comfort and stability He brings to those who know Him as their Savior.”

Jim also shares this about Pastor Brian Babasol, our recent graduate, who taught Phil’s classes for a week when he got out of the hospital last November:

“I called Brian Babasol, missionary pastor in Hernani, Eastern Samar, today. He is living in a bunk house, a multifamily dwelling built of plywood designed to house typhoon survivors. He has an excellent opportunity to witness to the almost 100 people who live next to him. However, living conditions are crowded and the roof leaks. Pray for God to strengthen and comfort Brian, and give him fruit as he courageously witnesses in difficult conditions.”
