Vern Miller serves with the Bangladesh Tribal Association of Baptist Churches and is executive director of Children of the Hills, a ministry in Washington State that supports the education of tribal children in the Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. He sends the following ministry update.
A tribal pastor expressed his thanks to God for the gift of food. His family was out of rice and they were waiting for God to supply. As the pastor and a leader in his community, this man does not have the freedom to beg for food, as that is considered inappropriate in the tribal community. The pastor can just beg to God and now God has supplied! The rice was a huge spiritual encouragement for him!
The tribal harvest begins in August and their hunger should subside, but their lives will continue to be 
severely impacted by COVID-19, as in America. The virus continues to spread, deaths are increasing, lockdowns come and go, businesses operate sporadically and schools are officially closed. Some of our remote village schools have avoided the closure. These schools run from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 to 6:00 p.m., which just happens to be when the police are home. You could say that the tribal people are resourceful! The tribes are hoping life will return to normal in September and restrictions will ease, but as we’re so aware—only God knows the future.
