The African Fundamental Baptist Mission in Liberia cares for orphans through its Abandoned Children Care Foundation, provides healthcare through its African Fundamental Baptist Clinic, and plants churches throughout the country. The association sends the following ministry report.

As we look back and see the level of spiritual progress and impact the Lord is making in the lives of those we minister to at Liberty Baptist Church and its auxiliary ministries, we are so thankful to God for His tremendous blessing upon His work in our hands. We must also extend profound thanks and appreciation to you for partnering with us in prayer and physical donations.

All over Liberia, people (especially the youth) have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge (Rom. 10:2). Our aim is to share the gospel with young people in a way that those who hear it will understand it (Matt.13:23), accept it (Mark 4:20), and ultimately keep it (Luke 8:15).

We are reaching the young people of Liberia through youth camp, teaching the Bible at schools, and a ministry to motorcyclists.

The Duaita Youth Camp

Duaita Youth Camp was established in the early 1970s by the late missionaries Karl and Mariam Luyben of the USA. After 14 years of civil war in Liberia, we saw the need (in September 2001) to reopen the camp to help transform the lives of traumatized and war-affected Liberian youth. image001Since then, 9,500 youth have attended the camp, of which 6,585 have come to know the Lord as Savior! Praise the Lord!

Camp is usually held two times per year, the last one being in January 2013. However, in view of the image001very bad state of disrepair, our camp site is proving to be dangerous and is becoming increasingly untenable for ministry. We are seeking your help in renovating the facility, specifically the cabins and in the provision of bedding. We also are in need of a well with hand pump for safe drinking water.

School Ministry

In March 2011 we launched a ministry to teach the Bible at two public schools in Gbarnga. This opened up a golden opportunity to Biblically inspire and transform the future generations in Liberia through sound Bible teaching. We are ministering to 3,738 students in Dolokelen Gboveh Highimage001 School and John F. Bakalu Elementary and Junior High School. Through this ministry, approximately 10 percent of our students have made professions of faith in Jesus Christ. We have found that in general there is such a strong desire among the students for a deeper knowledge of the Word of God that we are considering establishing a formal after-school Bible study program.

To this end, we seek your help in procuring Bible study courses with workbooks as well as a multimedia projector, computer, printer, multimedia screen, photocopier, pens and pencils, and notebooks.

Motorcyclists’ Ministry

Motorcyclists within the Liberian context are also called “pen-pens.” They supplement the limited availability of public transportation by transporting paying passengers around the city, towns, and villages.

image001Many of these motorcyclists are former combatants in Liberia’s brutal civil war who are seeking to make a livelihood for themselves and their families. Even so, they have retained many aspects of their warlike temperament and as such are brutal, violent, vulgar, aggressive, and most importantly, lost.

On Aug. 9 and 10, 2012, we held a retreat for motorcyclists in Gbarnga; 63 motorcyclists attended, and 37 accepted the Lord as Savior. Since then, we have been ministering to them on the streets of Gbarnga.

In furtherance to this ministry, we commenced a weekly Bible study at the N. V. Massaquoi Elementary and Junior High School for the motorcyclists the first week of June 2013. During the study, we continued to promote the gospel message through Christian movies and Bible-based lessons. Therefore, we ask that you help us in the supply of Christian DVDs with lessons and Bibles.

We encourage you to continue praying and partnering with us in winning lost souls for our Lord Jesus Christ, as “the harvest truly is plenteous, but the laborers are few.” May we together be co-laborers in the harvest of the Lord.

Yours in the Lord’s service,
