image001Doane Baptist Bible Institute has been educating students in the Philippines since 1923. God is doing miracles in the lives of the school’s students. President Rector T. Cadayday sends the following account:

One of our students, Miss Lolita Miralles, was separated from her family when she was 7 years old. She went to Manila with her grandmother to join her working mother, who left their father. But soon she found herself wandering the streets of Manila. She got lost and was adopted by an orphanage run by Christians. After she graduated from high school, she came to Doane Baptist Bible Institute for a four-year course. She learned not only how to do ministry but also to play the piano. She was a gifted and athletic student.

A few months before her graduation, she joined a group of students who ministered to children affected by Typhoon Yolanda in the islands of Leyte and Samar. One of the places she visited was Guiuan, Eastern Samar. In Guiuan she traced back the streets where she used to roam when she was 7 years old. She tried to remember where she lived with her family, praying that she could meet her father and possibly siblings after 14 years of separation with no contact whatsoever.

Amazingly, an old woman recognized her and led her to her former home. There she met her father, Felix, and siblings for the first time after 14 long years. Her father did not recognize her until she showed him her pictures. She brought her father and siblings to our station to meet the rest of the group. I could not speak the Waray dialect, but I took the opportunity to share the gospel with her father because he could also understand Cebuano.

We rejoiced because her father professed to accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. What a blessed reunion. Miss Miralles was challenged to volunteer as a worker back in her hometown in Guiuan, Eastern Samar, after her graduation.

The story of Miss Miralles is just one of the miracles God is doing in the lives of many young men and women who come to be trained at DBBI. By praying and supporting our students financially, you are meeting needs beyond your imagination. You are also meeting the needs of our churches and the needs of those who still need to hear the gospel of Jesus Christ. This school year we have more than 190 students. About 40 percent of them depend on scholarships and grants. We also provide free rice to many of them to make sure they don’t miss meals when they attend their classes. Please continue to pray for these precious lives.
