Two years ago Luther Chatla, director of Baptist India Ministries, initiated a new way to share God’s message of salvation with people in India. He says, God’s “empowering spirit made me to come up with a creative means for gospel work in a country like India.”

Suvaartha TV, a Christian television channel, was the result. “Suvaartha” is the Telugu word for “gospel”; following Jesus’ command to teach the gospel to all nations is the channel’s driving force. Seven million people can access Suvaartha TV around the clock. The “gospel is taken right into the living rooms” of Hindus and Muslims where Christians cannot go, Chatla says.

On July 10 the regional press association gave Luther Chatla a distinctive service award for the impact the channel has made on communities.

Luther Chatla is also the principal of Mount Zion Baptist Bible College in South India and son of Dr. Chatla Devasahayam, president of the Indian Christian Bethel Baptist Gospel Fellowship and vice chairman of the International Partnership of Fundamental Baptist Ministries Council of Eight.
