When Chris and Deb Hindal visited Kenya one year ago, they moved around the country without any sense of unrest or insecurity. Our partners in Kenya are planting churches and fulfilling the great commission in their part of God’s vineyard. Chris was blessed to speak at a conference for the association of churches.

All of that changed in the wake of the presidential elections. Literally overnight tribal groups have erupted in fighting and bloodshed over the political maneuvering and apparent overturn of the democratic process. Outside sources report that the candidate of one tribe won the election and the candidate of another tribe has seized power. This has sparked riots and killings in several spots around the nation.

Gary Anderson, president of Baptist Mid-Missions released this statement concerning one of the BMM missionaries:

I am sending this request to the entire Mission Family to enlist your prayers for the nation of Kenya and more specifically for Stephen and Edna Muindi who are Baptist Mid-Missions missionaries working in a location within their homeland that is making lots of news right now. Most lines of communication between us and Kenya have broken down, so it is impossible for us to know exactly what their situation is. We do know they are in a genuine hot spot and are at considerable risk.

Please pray for resolution of the unrest in Kenya and for the safety of the Muindi family. Our last word from them indicated there is very limited food and water, and no avenues are open right now for relief to reach their area. We will try to keep you posted on any changes in the circumstances. Thank you for praying. God reigns!

Chris Hindal reports that some of the pastors in our partnering association are from both sides of the warring tribes. This may cause difficulties among their church members and for the pastors themselves. We must uphold our brothers and sisters before the Lord as they seek a place of safe harbor and that God will supply their needs. Pray also for opportunities to share the love of Christ in these challenging situations.
